Welcome back to the next installment of Project Cyclone! This time we hit a big milestone and can mount the hoist to the truck.
Since the hoist is a bit narrower than the frame of the truck, we needed to fabricate some brackets to carry the load and firmly couple the hoist and truck together. We did that with some heavy C-channel steel that bridges the frame rails at the hoist mount points. Here’s Mike welding the rear one in place.
The fact that it’s a dump bed makes it a lot easier to get to some of these spots! There’s a duplicate of this bracket up towards the front for the front mounting points. With these in place, we can effectively bolt the hoist directly to the truck frame.
Now for the big moment, and how do you get a 2000 pound pump hoist on top of your truck? Well, you get another pump hoist!
Another local pump guy generously offered the use of his rig to place our hoist on the truck. We were happy to see that everything cleared and the holes lined up with our new brackets. After drilling the final holes and sinking the large mounting bolts through the brackets, the 2 parts are now one!
I’m calling it The Creamsicle, but I don’t think Mike likes that.
Next time we’ll do the final hydraulic plumbing to connect the hoist to the truck’s pump and, hopefully, be able to test it out. See you then!
